SEO Is Boss: 5 Hard Truths About Blogging When You’re Exhausted
SEO is boss
I will fight with the SEO score, no doubt. SEO is boss. Even when I hate admitting it. I won’t have any of the fancy words that are asked of me. And quite honestly, I don’t even have the energy in me to fight. I am literally spent. I am sitting here with a half-empty – no, no, it is half-full – bottle of red wine and I know that I have promised myself to write a blog article.
SEO is boss, whether we like it or not — especially when you’re tired, uninspired, and still trying to show up.

The perpetual list that never gets shorter
Said blog article has been on my list of things to do for a total of four days. Maybe five. I wrote a killer blog last Friday, wasn’t convinced about it any longer on Saturday and by Sunday I was asking Chat GPT to help me rewrite it. As much as Chat tried, I just haven’t been able to truly get behind that blog as it stands right now. So, that article waits in queue (I love that word…who would have thought of putting two sets of ‘ue’ so close together?
This is the part where SEO is boss, even though I’d rather be writing something else (note this was only placed here to appease uncle SEO. You can entirely ignore this paragraph and if you are really cluey, you can tell me how the heck I can be better at pleasing uncle!). SEO is boss — and right now, SEO is boss whether I like it or not. See what I did there? I tricked uncle SEO, who is boss, as we know. I am sorry, that this paragraph had to appear in this blog. But I am too tired to fight with uncle any longer. SEO is boss — and right now, SEO is boss whether I like it or not. Had to repeat it again…goodness. Now read the rest of the article. I promise it is worth your time.
Death-staring the screen doesn’t move the needle (SEO is boss)
I stare at the screen, hoping that magically I will find inspiration – not just in writing, but on a level far deeper than that. In the last 6 months I have danced on all the dancefloors of social media. Some were kind and gentle and felt familiar – others left me gasping at what is the acceptable way of communicating now and these pulled me in with their insidious claws and had me trying for an audience. Burnout among creators and entrepreneurs is well documented and I think I am staring at said burnout. Not because I gave so much but because the depth of the pull into the world of needing to be verified becomes all-encompassing. The dopanin hits are definitely almost as good as the wine…and no one is flagging the danger. And I am a 52 year old woman with a fair bit of life experience under my belt – not a teenie who needs protecting.
Audacity meets lack of strategy
This is where tired brains stop questioning and start copying. Just because someone claims something, doesn’t mean it will work for everyone. But the information stream that we gobble up on a daily basis has us lacking any discernment, we just blindly go ahead and do the thing that we are told to do. That is very much how we have been taught to operate. Go to school, do what the teachers say. Go to work, do what the bosses say. Read something on Facebook, believe it without question. So we end up with a whole lot of false courage – not because we are not courageous, we probably are very brave to be following someone so blindly!! The courage is fed by another person’s set of standards, ethics and their motives. And we borrow these for a while as if we were at a dress up party…oh yeah, this looks great on me. Let me pretend that I am you.
Identity shifts borrow other people’s energy
I am a big believer that if you want to move into your next chapter in life and leave behind old patterns and beliefs then you do need to borrow the codes / the essence / the behaviour of those who have gone before you. But, do this with discernment. The person who you ‘met’ on Facebook at 11.23 pm as you were scrolling who sold you the next dream network marketing gig where you basically go from being perpetually broke to booking travel for others and earning fabulous income along the way (I have no idea how travel network marketing works, please forgive me, I will investigate for my next blog). That person has their own agenda, their drive, their goals and often that person really doesn’t give a flying fuck about whether this thing they are selling you fits YOU.
Where am I going with this? Well…clearly I need to publish this and link it back to one of my rather brilliant previous posts. You can check it out and you are more than welcome to leave a comment. Honesty is my currency, particularly 3 glasses of wine into a Thursday evening. Give it to me straight – am I making any sense? Or should I leave the wine till Friday?
Whether I like it or not, SEO is boss — and today, it wins.
